Dr. Regina Evans was not born in the South, but got here as fast she could. She grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana as an only child, and spent summers on her grandparents’ farm in northern Indiana. She tried living in the East Coast after graduating from high school by attending Amherst College in Massachusetts, where she majored in Neuroscience. Finding the Northeast was not her speed, Dr. Evans returned home for medical school at Indiana University. Upon graduating in 1996, she pursued Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Evans then headed South in 2000, where she knew she wanted to live, first at Carolina OB-Gyn in Georgetown, South Carolina, where she worked for 3 years. She then found her place at Southeast Women’s Center in Smithfield, and now Clayton, North Carolina in 2004, and has been home ever since.
Being part of a community, having long-standing relationships with patients and their families, and being part of one of the most special days when their child is born are some of the things Dr. Evans loves about her job. She enjoys working with teenagers and educating them about their changing bodies as well as helping women navigate the new phase of life in middle age. Having an established patient send her daughter, friend, sister, or mother in “because Dr. Evans can help you,” is one of the most rewarding things about her profession.
Dr. Evans is board certified in all of general Obstetrics and Gynecology including adolescent medicine, infertility, high risk obstetrics, and menopausal medicine in the office as well as major and minor surgical procedures in the hospital such as hysterectomy, tubal ligation, and laparoscopy (minimally invasive procedures). She is excited about the increase in office and robotic procedures which decrease recovery time. And, of course, Dr. Evans loves to deliver babies, the reason why she chose this specialty!
Family:
I married Raymond Leonard Evans, III, in 2002 after dragging him down from Maryland to join me in the Carolinas. We had our first son, Raymond Leonard Evans, IV, whom we call “Leo,” on my birthday in 2003, followed soon by Zachary Alexander in 2005.
Hobbies:
While not very good at it, I enjoy running, as well as weight training and yoga. Anything to help keep up with my “wide-open” boys! I love playing in the surf with my sons, flying kites, and boating at the beach. I read constantly on current events and fiction, as well as part of a neighborhood book club. I would love to travel more but I have enjoyed visiting the Caribbean and Europe before settling down.
Interesting Fact:
I have been to Australia twice—once as a medical student on a rotation at a hospital in Adelaide, South Australia, and again in 2000 for the Sydney Olympics. I am also fascinated by sea turtles!
